Support for Carers and Relatives

Can carers arrange physiotherapy for someone they care for?

Caring for someone with mobility difficulties, illness or disability can be challenging. Physiotherapy can help support both the person receiving care and those helping them day to day.

At Village Physio, carers and family members can arrange physiotherapy for the person they support. Appointments take place in the comfort of the patient’s own home or care home, allowing rehabilitation to focus on real-life movement and everyday activities.

Carers and relatives are welcome to attend physiotherapy sessions if the patient wishes, helping them understand exercises, mobility strategies and safe ways to support movement.

Who is the service for?

Physiotherapy arranged by carers or relatives can help people who:

Sometimes physiotherapy is requested before a problem becomes serious, for example to maintain mobility, reduce falls risk or prepare someone for surgery.

Where can physiotherapy take place?

Village Physio provides home physiotherapy visits, meaning treatment can take place:

  • in the patient’s own home

  • in a care home

  • in supported living accommodation

Rehabilitation in the person’s own environment allows exercises and movement practice to focus on everyday tasks such as:

  • getting up from chairs

  • walking safely around the home

  • using stairs

  • moving around outdoors

How can physiotherapy help the person you care for?

Physiotherapy can support many different needs, including:

  • improving strength and mobility

  • improving balance and coordination

  • reducing the risk of falls

  • rebuilding movement after surgery or hospital stay

  • supporting long-term health conditions

  • maintaining independence and confidence

Depending on the individual’s needs, treatment may involve exercises, mobility training, advice and rehabilitation.
