Children's Physio

How can physiotherapy help children?

Children’s physiotherapy supports movement, strength and coordination as a child grows and develops. Some children may need support due to injury, developmental delay or an underlying condition.

Every child develops at their own pace, but if movement, balance or strength seems delayed or difficult, physiotherapy can help guide progress safely.

Early support can improve confidence, physical ability and participation in everyday activities.

Why might a child need physiotherapy?

Children may benefit from physiotherapy for many reasons.

Common causes include:

  • Developmental delay

  • Poor coordination

  • Muscle weakness

  • Balance difficulties

  • Toe walking

  • Sports injuries

  • Fractures

  • Hypermobility

  • Neurological conditions

  • Post-surgical recovery

Some children may struggle with running, jumping, climbing stairs or keeping up with peers.

What might movement difficulties look like in children?

Parents may notice:

  • Frequent tripping or falling

  • Difficulty balancing

  • Delayed milestones, such as crawling or walking

  • Reduced strength

  • Poor posture

  • Avoiding physical activity

  • Fatigue with movement

  • Pain after activity

Some children may become less confident or avoid sports and play.
